Episode 00: The Trailer
Suzie Sherman 0:00
This is And The Next Thing You Know. It’s a podcast about how our lives go exactly not as we planned them. I’m Suzie Sherman, and through a series of missteps and mistakes and disappointments, and serendipity, and beautiful surrender to the flow of my life, I’ve landed here behind a microphone, and I’m going to have conversations with people about exactly that. How we slip on a banana peel sideways through our lives, and no matter how hard we cling to our plans for college and career and relationships and creative goals, and how we cling to the narratives about the inevitable triumph of our own hero’s journey. It’s actually the disruptions in our lives, the unforeseen illnesses, the deaths of people we love, our breakups, radical shifts in our career paths, serendipitous run-ins with old acquaintances, that one side of that one album that inspired us to come out to our families. Or like that screenwriting class, I took a community college that inadvertently somehow made me apply to a grad program in psychology. Or that time that I tore off the flyer tag for the room for rent, and ended up living in that apartment for longer than I’d ever lived anywhere else in my life.

It’s these tangents that throw us in a different direction, and force us to inhabit these beautiful, messy, trauma filled, disappointing, gorgeous, sexy lives, despite ourselves. You have some and the next thing you know stories too, don’t you? Of course you do.
